"Experience consulting in practice from an immersive and realistic simulation"

Interactive Hybrid Learning Experience

We provide students access to an authentic consulting project experience in a safe environment. The Consulting Sim creates a real world consulting environment through realistic interactions with a complex character set. The students will engage in a series of assessed interactions that contain numerous real world decisions and compromises, including budget, analysis, and client goodwill.

No clients will be harmed in the process!

The simulation follows the four stages within the lifecycle of a typical consulting project. We provide a range of materials to support the teaching and learning of these topics.

1

In Stage 1, you will learn how to start and scope a project, and write a consulting proposal.

2

In Stage 2, you will learn how to gather data and engage with various stakeholders, whilst balancing project resources and budgets.

3

In Stage 3, you will learn how to analyse, structure and draw conclusions and integrate feedback to develop appropriate recommendations.

4

In Stage 4, you will learn how to present recommendations to clients, ensure client satisfaction and engage in business development.

Tailored Feedback

Students will receive detailed feedback based on the answer option they selected after each interaction within the simulation. The feedback is based on three fundamental principles:

  • Specific: it links into the simulation's overarching purpose of learning to be a consultant by covering essential abilities and attributes required for success in the sector.
  • On-time: it is provided immediately following the interaction, allowing students to address areas for improvement in the phases that follow.
  • Useful: it provides actionable advice on how to change behaviour and charge course in order to maximise the client connection.

The Consultant's Smartphone

The phone feature gives students access to a wide variety of information and data. There are nine primary functionalities:

  • Performance: allows students to track their score against other students in the simulation.
  • Reports: a library of all reports that the students have received from the client so far.
  • Tasks: outlines any outstanding tasks the students must complete. For example, the client has requested a report or summary of findings to far.
  • Feedback: a location for lecturers to upload feedback for the students’ assignments.
  • Mail: an inbox containing emails from the client, including information, issues, or risks.
  • Contacts: a summary of characters that the students have unlocked so far.
  • Notepad: a place for the students to write ideas, effective strategies or other important information.
  • Light Mode: caters to user preferences by changing the user interface between light and dark mode.
  • History: a summary of all interactions and feedback so far.

Authenthic Character Developments

Characters will be more or less willing to share information to pupils depending on the responses they choose and their client ties. This character development I executed through the tone of voice used during the exchanges, as well as visual cues in the characters' persona and appearance.
